ABOUT ME



   
  Hello, my name is Preston Jenkins. I am a first-generation student at Western Kentucky University. I am studying Photojournalism with a minor in Entrepreneurship and Political Science. I have many passions, but I am most passionate about photography and visual design. I grew up in the middle of nowhere near the city of Paducah, Kentucky. When I was young I would always venture out and go to explore the fields and woods surrounding my house. I was lucky to have this opportunity to go outdoors whenever I wanted, and I believe this is where my natural curiosity came from. 
        
        I was hooked ever since I took my first photo. Something about being able to capture a specific moment in time really made photography feel special to me. At first I captured pictures of people who were close to me, my family, my dog, ect... Then I started to get out of my comfort zone and started to take photos of my Highschool’s sporting events and anything I found interesting. The ball starting rolling......

        I realized I grew the strongest and made some of the best images when I was out of my comfort zone. I then took the leap to become the first person in my family to attend a four-year University and decided to major in Western Kentucky University’s award-winning Photojournalism program. I was very blessed to have the opportunity to attend WKU and have enjoyed almost every moment of it so far. 
    
        Once I got to college and being away from home I quickly realized my true strengths and weaknesses. I realized one of my biggest strengths is a strong natural curiosity. I loved getting out of my comfort zone and talking to new people every day. I realized I was in the right place. I quickly started to make pictures of new people and started to learn more about making true “story telling” images. 

        The people that I have met through photography and storytelling have become a part of my identity. I am truely blessed to have met everyone I have and wake up excited every day realizing that I have only scratched the surface. 

        I am very excited for the future and what it might hold.
